Thomas Klassen

Professor Klassen is the author and editor of many books dealing with international education as well as ageing in Asia. His most recent book is The Essential Guide to Studying Abroad: From Success in the Classroom to a Fulfilling Career (2020). Recent books that he has edited include Ageing in Asia-Pacific: Interdisciplinary and Comparative perspectives (2018), The Routledge Handbook of Global Public Policy and Administration (2017), and Retirement in Japan and South Korea: The Past, the Present and the Future of Mandatory Retirement (2015).
During 2018 and during 2014–16, he was Visiting Professor at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. In 2011, he was Visiting Researcher at the Korea Labor Institute. His current research interest is on income security policy and the welfare state in a comparative context, particularly in South Korea and North Korea.
He has taught York University Summer Study Abroad courses in Seoul, South Korea. The course allowed York University undergraduate students to live and study in South Korea for a month.
