Izumi Niki

Izumi Niki is a PhD student at Department of Sociology, York University. Her research interest is in paid and unpaid care work (elder care and domestic work), labour, gender, and immigration policy, especially in Japan and East Asia.
She was born in Tokyo and raised in Nagoya, Japan. She has received both a BA and an MA in Sociology from International Christian University in Tokyo as well as a Master of Social Work with a Collaborative Masters in Asia Pacific Studies from the University of Toronto. She has been working as a social worker and recreation therapist for Japanese Canadian seniors in Toronto. She has also worked with seniors as a certified care worker in Japan.
