Zahra is an MA candidate in Communication and Culture at York University. She completed her BA in Law in Afghanistan. She worked as a journalist with local and international media in Kabul for six years. In 2016, she joined The New York Times bureau in Kabul and became the first Afghan woman to work for a major English language news outlet in the entire country.
She is interested in gender and women’s issues, representation of women in culture and media, ethnicity and identity formation.
