YCAR visiting scholar Daehee Kim is a professor in the Department of Korean Language Education, College of Education, Wonkwang University. His research interests include language education pedagogy, sociolinguistics, language policy, heritage language, language maintenance, and language awareness. His research project during his stay in Canada will focus on aspects of reflectional writing as a self-negotiation process of learners of Korean as a heritage or foreign language as well as language ideologies among Korean immigrant families. He is the author of Media Literacy and Korean Language Education and A Study on the Awareness of Media Literacy, both published by Imagination Museum Press in 2018 as well as articles in Educational Journal of Sino-Korean Characters and Literatures, Journal of the Korean Association of Convergence Studies, Open Mind & the Study of Humanities, and the Journal of Oriental Literature. At YCAR, he is working with Mihyon Jeon (Languages, Literatures and Linguistics). He is also contributing to the participating in the ‘Korea in the World, the World in Korea’ project, based at YCAR. His stay at York University extends until February 2020.
