Jia Ma

Born in Nanjing, PRC, he holds a BA, MA and PhD (1993) in Chinese literature from Nanjing University. He was an Associate Professor at Nanjing University between 1996 and 2000, and a visiting lecturer at Brown University (2002-2004). He acted as a course director at Huron University College (2005) and was a lecturer at Renison University College (2006 - 2012). He was also a visiting scholar at Lund University (1998-1999) and at the University of Toronto (2001-2006).
Dr Ma joined York University in 2004 as a contract faculty member. He was a tenure-track Assistant Professor between 2012 and 2017. His most important publication is Wandering under the Cross: Christian Culture and Modern Chinese Literature (1995). Dr Ma studies modern Chinese literature, Chinese North American diasporic literature and Chinese history. He takes particular interest in Christian cultural influences on Chinese literature.
