Aqeel Ihsan

Aqeel Ihsan is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at York University. He is also an Ontario certified teacher who has previously taught in high school.
His research interests focus on the South Asian diaspora currently residing in Canada. Specifically, he seeks to conduct an oral history of partition survivors; particularly, those whom have transmigrated to Canada with the goal of exploring how their ethno-national identities have been shaped throughout the experiences they have had. Furthermore, he seeks to explore how the surviving migrants view theoretical concepts of “home” and “belonging” as Canadians and ascertain whether symbolic border guards between India and Pakistan still exist for these survivors.
