Humayun Hamidzada is a Research Associate at York Centre for Asian Research. He directs the Afghanistan Peace Research Project within the framework of the South and Central Asia Project. A graduate of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Mr. Hamidzada comes to YCAR from the World Bank Executive Board where he served as an Advisor to the Executive Director in Washington, D.C.
He has prior work experience at senior levels as Deputy Minister of Finance for Policy (where he led preparations of the country’s national development strategy and corresponding funding mechanisms), Spokesperson to President of Afghanistan, Founding Director of the Center for Policy and Human Development at Kabul University (where he led the Afghanistan Human Development 2007 on the Rule of Law), Co-editor of the Special Issue on Afghanistan for the Journal on International Peacekeeping, Associate Research Scientist at the New York University’s Center on International Cooperation, and at senior management and advisory roles at the United Nations, the World Bank and NGOs. In Canada, Mr. Hamidzada co-founded the Development Policy Group International and Afghanistan Canada Business Federation.
