The Nirvan Bhavan Graduate Fellowship will be given annually to a York University graduate student who is engaged in research on the arts, society and/or culture of India. Nirvan Bhavan is a non-profit, charitable organization established in the late 1970s. One of its aims is to increase awareness and appreciation of the arts, society, and culture of India in the Metro Toronto area. Since the organization was formed, it has also strived to raise sufficient funds to establish a cultural centre for people of East Indian origin in the local community.

The criteria for selection will include the academic merit of the research proposal, which includes clarity of the proposal, potential contribution of proposed research to India or Indian Diaspora studies and to these communities, and feasibility of the research. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, be Ontario residents*, and demonstrate financial need. A two-page report will be required from the successful student.

The deadline for applications is Monday, 05 February 2024 by 4pm, with the successful applicant being notified within one month.
