This casual virtual roundtable features the work of three international dancers that reimagine how bharatanatyam, kuchipudi, and whacking/waacking can represent our experiences. Join artists Dhanarajh Rasiah (Sri Lanka), Ranjini Nair (India/UK), and Sangram Mukhopadhyay (India) as they share and discuss works-in-progress and processes with Toronto-based Paalam artists, the Gardneners and the audience.

Gardeners of Stories (Arpita Bajpeyi, Vridhhi Chaudhry and Meera Kanageswaran) are the roundtable’s organizers and invite you to Paalam: A Reimagining South Asian Dance Salon Series. This November, they are featuring works by international and Toronto-based artists whose art explores stories we don’t typically encounter in South Asian dance: experiences of life on tea plantations, queerness, postpartum depression and much more.

Paalam has been made possible by the generous support of the Centre for Drama, Theatre & Performance Studies at the University of Toronto, the York Centre for Asian Research, and the Institute for Dance Studies at CDTPS.

Join us for the second event in this series—Paalam Dance Salon—on 18 November 2023.
