Dr. Mustahid Husain’s interdisciplinary research includes broad thematic areas of Islam and Muslim masculinity, diaspora and integration, global political economy, and social justice and governance, seeking to create bridges among research and practice. Prior to joining YCAR, Dr. Husain completed his postdoctoral and doctoral research at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Husain’s work features in a range of monograph, journal articles, book chapters and edited volumes as well as received press coverage in The Times Higher Education. His latest book Development, Neoliberalism, and Islamism in South Asia: The Case of Bangladesh, commissioned by Palgrave Macmillan (New York and Switzerland), offers a unique perspective on neoliberal policies of the Bangladeshi state, in particular, how they impacted institutions such as higher education and military, contributed to the othering in the social milieu, and shaped the daily lives of the people.

Dr Husain’s exisitng research examines if neoliberalism induced social change precipitates psychological conflicts for Muslim Bangladeshi immigrant youth interlocutors in the Greater Toronto Area that they have extreme difficulty reconciling.
