I am a doctoral candidate in the Communication and Culture program at York University with an MA in Communication from the University of Ottawa and a BA in the same field from Simon Fraser University. My doctoral research project will be a digital ethnographic study on the online consumption pattern of new Chinese immigrants in Canada and its influences on their identity negotiation between Canadian and Chinese cultures, especially during the global pandemic. I will focus on YouTube and the Chinese video-sharing website Bilibili as the main subjects. Some topics I would like to discuss include the anti-Asian racism during the pandemic, the intercultural experiences of new migrants, and how gender and city of origin affect migrants’ adaptation.
