Asia Research Brief #43 | A Sonic Mapping of Arab Canada

In this latest Asia Research Brief, Jillian Fulton-Melanson (Social Anthropology) asks how Arab identities are articulated, produced and managed by DJs of Arabic descent in Toronto and Montreal who integrate folk songs into electronic dance music (EDM). Jillian considers the range of ways and extent to which music played and performed in underground EDM venues serve to recall and reinforce histories and memories of “Arabness.”
