Jana Borras

Back to People
Master's student, Graduate Programme in Sociology, York University
E-mail: jborras@yorku.ca

I am currently a first year MA student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies: Sociology at York University. I graduated with High Distinction from the University of Toronto with an honours BA, with a double major in sociology and women and gender studies. My research interests centre on precarious status, commodification of labour, transnationalism and immigration. I am particularly interested in Canada’s Live-in caregiver program, a temporary foreign worker program that attracted Filipino women health care workers to work in Canada. I am interested in how does permanent legal status affect the quality of employment and experience of these women migrant workers.

Keywords: Precarious status; commodification of labour; transnationalism; immigration; Filipino Diaspora
