The 2012 documentary, Puso ng lungsod (Heart of the City), features the struggles of an urban poor community in Manila. The screening will be followed by a talkback with Andrew Ortega (Urban Studies Foundation Fellowship recipient; University of the Philippines) and Hazel Dizon (York University).

More information about the documentary is available here: http://bulatlat.com/…/puso-ng-lungsod-heart-of-the-city-do…/

The screening is presented by the Emerging Asian Urbanisms series at the York Centre for Asian Research in collaboration with INDePth at Asian Cities Conference 2018.

The EAU series aims to engage early stage academics looking at the processes of urban development, planning and contestation across the continent. It draws upon calls made by Ananya Roy and Jennifer Robinson, among others, to investigate “new geographies of theory” as fertile sources of uncovering new ways of understanding urbanism everywhere. The series is organized by Nabeel Ahmed (Environmental Studies, York University).
