The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) is one of Canada’s largest and most active communities of scholars working on East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Asian migrants around the world.
YCAR is located on York University’s Keele campus and is one of the University’s Organized Research Units. The Centre includes affiliated faculty, graduate students and research associates from social sciences, humanities, health, education, fine arts, law and business. YCAR facilitates and supports research projects, knowledge exchange and graduate student training, as well as engagement with wider communities in the conduct or dissemination of research.
Founded in 2002, YCAR continues a strong tradition of internationally recognized research in Asian Studies pioneered since 1974 by the University of Toronto-York University Joint Centre on Modern East Asia. The joint Centre later became known as the University of Toronto-York University Joint Centre for Asia Pacific Studies (JCAPS), in which York faculty members and graduate students played a central role.
